How to Get HWC started in my County

The first step to bringing Handle With Care to your county is contacting OhioHWC. OhioHWC will assist you in creating your local HWC Partners list, share helpful tips for making contact, supply introductory resources for use in inviting Partners to the meeting, provide the required presentation materials, and collaborate to schedule your meeting. The OhioHWC Lead co-facilitates all Partners Meetings, this requires all meetings be scheduled collaboratively. Read below to prepare for your meeting with OhioHWC:

SCHOOLS

  • The County School Superintendent or designee
  • The principal or vice-principal from every school in your county
  • The counselor or attendance director from every school in your county
  • Representative of the Educational Service Center

LAW ENFORCEMENT & FIRST RESPONDERS

  • Representative from the State Highway Patrol
  • Sheriff or designee
  • Chiefs or representative from local police departments/municipalities
  • Representative from Emergency Medical Services/Dispatch (911)
  • Representative from Emergency Management Association
  • County Fire Department Association leadership/Local Fire Chiefs

MENTAL HEALTH

  • Representatives from the local mental health provider
  • Representative from local ADAHMHS Board

CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES

  • The CPS supervisor and/or CSM

CHILD CARE SERVICES

  • Head Start
  • Before and After School Programs
  • Child Care Agencies (administrators, program directors)

OTHERS TO INCLUDE

  • Prosecuting Attorney
  • Representative from Juvenile Court
  • Circuit Court Judges, Family Court Judges and Magistrates
  • Family Resource Network
  • Local civic organizations such as Lions and Kiwanis Clubs
  • News organizations
